i always like to think my stuff is music for a warm but rainy day . low frequencies do something to your muscles when you listen to them. there have been studies of low frequencies contracting your muscles, and because they contract certain muscles you have the urge to move, you know, to get rid of that itchy feeling in your arms and legs. so that would be a reason to dance. hailing from eindhoven, which back in the day had ties with many chicago and detroit artists and labels. i think what makes music interesting is when an artist incorporates his/her influences and translates it into a unique sounding style. although it might sound a tad arrogant, i d like to think of my music as martyn music . i try not to think of it as dubstep or techno, or house or drum & bass, it s not about genres, it s about music

after last years album love & devotion the husband and wife duo of mike paradinas and lara rix-martin follow up with weird drift. the album shows just how much their ability to write confident and thoughtful pop songs has developed, while still being able to retain the sleepy cushion of steamy synth pop that made the first record so rewarding to listen to. this time album features the vocals of a vezelay, a.k.a. french singer and producer matthieu le berre, who brings a gentle poised falsetto to the duos productions along with a delicate but hopeful angst.

dj diamond is 24 year old karlis griffin from the west side of chicago. he has been producing music since the age of 13 and djing since 20, heading the -flight muzik- clique of footwork producers. you might recall his two tracks from our -bangs & works vol.1- footwork compilation of last year. in addition hes also released several mix cds in chicago, but this, his first international album showcases his unique style of footwork music. dj diamond is a unique producer with his own distinct style and an unusual ear for unexpected sonic and rhythmic combinations within the footwork template. often he thoroughly edits samples into tiny trance-inducing, techno-like stabs. combining this with a penchant for neon synths and loose, broken drums (that are often more effect-laden and freeform than those of of his peers) and you have a sound which has an intriguing, deeper, dreamlike feel. the breadth and quality of his production is clear when you listen to this album. take opener -rep yo clique-s woozy drawling synths and tribal tom patterns next to -speakerz n tonguez- with it-s snapping snares, minimal, repetitive voice samples and martial, detailed drum work. then a track like -torture rack- which is like grime in outer space: a minimal bassline and some samples from a computer game, while a bass kick stumbles at half time, swarms of percussive detail giving it drama. its a brilliant exercise in wonky tension. the extraordinary -decoded- comes across like a kind of amalgam of trance and prog rock bombast at 160bpm while -wreckageÕs- high pitch saw noise is like a strange metallic bird-call, over light cymbals, gabba-like kicks and metallic claps. -digimons- harmonic microedits could even be an snd track transported to chicago. finally the albums closer -i choose you- rolls out over a heavily edited and processed soul sample, its drums rolling off at odd angles to almost seasick effect.

yuri mendez jr. has an amazing gift for composing good songs. he arranges them and records them brilliantly, and then groups them together on an album in an unpredictable yet cohesive way (his last album had 22 tracks. this one only has 8). uri m�ndez jr. is a true artisan in the best sense of the word. this is pajaro sunrises third album, and although the essentials havenÕt changed (good songs, great songs), the rest has certainly evolved. yuris voice sounds more and more emphatic, and with an extensive register full of nuances, he sings a story in every song. in doing this, he covers a stunning vocal range that dazzles from the first listen. yuri has been playing together with the same fantastic band for some time now. with them, he has rehearsed the tracks (many of which they were already playing in concerts), and then gone into the studio where almost everything was recorded with everyone playing live. the benefits of having a group that has already travelled together, as well as shared stages and life experiences are evident. and, if this disc breathes anything, its travel, highways, and familiar stories stolen from faraway places that also feel nearby. its a grandiose yet intimate album that thrills and grows with each listen.

the ever on point citrus recordings is stepping up for its 5th artist lp. after having released the debut albums of mindscape & jade wich all went on for critical acclaim its time for citrus to get ready for its 3rd artist album. this time its time for the debut album of fourward! hailing straight from lower austria the four men collective fourward started out producing music in early 2007. the boys knew each other for quite a while and shared the love and passion for drumandbass music. for them it was always a main issue not to stick to any particular tiny subgenre only, but to develop a sound of their own. all members have different musical backgrounds which fit together perfectly and provide a great studio vibe. days went by and the boys finished a couple of tunes properly and it wasnt long until austrian drumandbass producer duo body&soul showed interest in their works. also international artists like bbcs very own crissy criss began to support their music giving them airplay on his radio show. as a result of their effort fourward has released quality tunes on labels like subsonik sound, planet funk and fokuz. the year 2010 they experienced the so called breakthrough with releases on nasca recordings and fokuz followed by an epic 12inch for the legendary label virus recordings! the guys definitely didnt stop there and being on the road now broadened their horizon even further. resulting in a series of tunes perfectly fitting together in this cd. diversity and musicallity are keywords for this album. listen from low blow to you and me, quality drum n bass!!

after experimenting through different electronic dance genres and releasing material in several record labels worldwide, chris nemmo (a.k.a christos panagiotopoulos) presents his second personal album, this time creating a nu-disco/funk amalgamation. the album consists of several different aspects of the scene, employing dirty funky basslines, reminiscent vintage melodies and atmospheric vocals in an effort to simulate a warm analog perception of the disco groove and aesthetics. >the nautilus project< features 12 unreleased tracks of cosmic house, nu disco, funk and pop. once more the production quality is massive, providing great musical soundscapes beautiful for the head and feet as well as plenty of solid grooves to offer djs, and enough personality to make for a completely satisfying home listen.

pingipung presents >the kenya sessions< - an enchanting cooperative mission featuring sven kacirek, our experimental drummer and electronic producer, and musicians from kenya. the kenya sessions is the result of svens extended visit to the country with live and fieldrec sessions which he later processed in his studio in hamburg. sven kacirek plays with local kenyan stars such as 80 year-old female vocalist ogoya nengo, or with joseph oganga, who delivers amazing patterns with his >nyatiti<, a traditional string instrument. its sometimes difficult to tell the parts recorded in kenya from those overdubbed by sven kacirek himself. his own compilation of marimba, bassdrums and brush patterns forms a musical thread that he weaves skillfully into the live sessions. at times joyfully straight (arsenal aluny vilage) at times mellow and melancholy (mariae, paperflowers). sven kacirek and some of the kenyan musicians will bring this fantastic material on international stages in early 2011. the linernotes by goetz steeger illustrate the detailed recording process of this record. >the kenya sessions< is pingipungs second album by sven kacirek who has a background as virtuoso jazz drummer. he studied at drummers collective in new york, played several solo-shows at the world drum festival and has written books on the experimental use of electronics on the drumset. on his solo debut >the palmin sessions< in 2007 he presented his original ambient aesthetics made from silent patterns recorded on paper, wood, or glass surfaces: >svens frantic drumming is really a pure pleasure to listen to ... his instruments join together in a deeply meditative study< (foxy digitalis)

space invadas is a project of two well-known artists: katalyst and steve spacek. space invadaÕs album soul-fi is receiving rave reviews and airplay from tastemakers around the globe as well as having 4 singles smashed on national radio in australia where the record has been released earlier this year. the album is being championed abroad by likes of gilles peterson on bbc1, garth trinidad on kcrw in la, tyler askew in nyc, andrew jervis (ubiquity) in san fran to name just a few. getting much love in the us and throughout europe where the record is yet to be released via bbe records. looks like its going to be a big year ahead for space invadas.

when dial records started in 2000 with a bunch of friends highly inspired by deep house, detroit techno and cologne lovetunes, nobody of them ever thought about running a decent record label. the only concept david lieske, peter kersten and paul kominek had in their mind was never to be part of any proper record business, never to be controlled by any rule or trend, always to let the record label be a part of their love for music and arts. even the dial family was never intended growing that big, almost 70 percent of the artists on the first compilation are the same on >2010<, the history starting from a small label based in hamburg turned out climbing a high mountain. touching cities like detroit, tokyo, paris, berlin, buenos aires, releasing music like contemporary classic, drones and glitches, ambient, guitar pop, singer songwriter, deep house, minimal techno, discovering arts of protagonists such as michaela meise, sergej jensen, dirk stewen, hanna schwarz, anna m�ller, cosima von bonin, all this fills a decade of dial records. but still the main part is the music and as we hold the 2010 compilation in our hands and listen to the tunes of phantom ghost, isol�e, pantha du prince, carsten jost, john roberts, efdemin, lawrence, christian naujoks, dominique, rndm, pigon, kassian- we still have this enthusiastic feeling that wants to tell us: this is only the beginning
